Share the Word: If we stop to think about the people who have influenced us - parents, teachers, priest or friend - in every instance they combined enthusiasm with energy; powerful commitment with a notable lack of concern for themselves as they pursued a goal. Looking at today's readings, especially the first reading from the Old Testament and the gospel of St. Luke, we see these qualities being recorded as signs of commitment -enthusiasm, energy, vision, dedication and perseverance. A literal acceptance of the gospel words is not the point; how each of us practises detachment and urgency is for the person to decide. What is asked is that we recognise the opportunities for good opened to us as Christ's disciples and, using our God given gifts, pursue those goals with enthusiasm.

Priests’ appointments: Fr. Franklin Augustine has been transferred to Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish Addiscombe. He will leave Deptford for his new posting at the end of the month. Let us keep him in our prayers as he takes up this new apostolate.

Infant Baptism: There will be infant baptism on Sun 18 July at 3.00pm. Sessions with parents/godparents will hold on Wed. 14 and Sat. 17 at 6.30pm.

Archdiocesan Commission for Schools and Colleges: The Commission is recruiting for the post of Adviser for School and College Chaplaincy (0.2). Applicants should be practising Catholics and all applications should be returned by 10am on Wed 23 June. Interested persons should contact Dona Gray on 01689883341 or donna.gray@rcsouthwark.org.uk

Church Heating: The heating of the church has been a major concern to all of us. The experience over the years has not been wonderful because we all feel the effect of it during winter. The church is constantly cold even when the boiler is on. Every year we spend huge amount of money because the present system is old and ineffective. We have decided to change the old system for effective heating. We are appealing to parishioners for donations. Our target is £12,700 to get it done before winter. May God be generous in rewarding you!
